ADULT LEADER TRAINING

WHY TRAiNiNG?

Everyone needs training to do anything well. You have been trained to do many things during your lifetime, from riding a bicycle to driving a car to performing your job. In some cases you were taught by someone else. hi others, you taught yourself. But the end result usually was an ability to do something you could not do before and to feel satisfaction in the accomplishment.

Scout leaders need to understand how we accomplish our aims. Our work is done through a quality program that must be a funfilled experience. How effectively the Boy Scouts of America influences the lives of boys depends on its leaders and their understanding of the aims and methods of Scouting.

Training helps leaders understand the various parts of the program.

Cub Scout Leader Training

Cub Scout Basic Leader Training can be scheduled as one session or a series of training sessions designed to give job-related information to Cub Scout Leaders. This training is usually conducted in group sessions, a combination of group sessions and home study, or a combination of personal coaching and home study.

Basic training covers a few topics in detail. It introduces some skills, but leaders develop these skills by practice over a longer time. Basic training encourages leaders to take part in supplemental training. It also helps them understand the importance of continuous self development. The theories and principles discussed in training courses are more meaningful when leaders put them to use.

Basic training is a requirement for all Cub Scout Leader Awards.

Cub Master/Webelos Leader Outdoor Training

A basic training component for all Cubmasters and Webelos Leaders, outdoor training is a one day course with instruction in a variety of outdoor skills including outdoor cooking, ropework, safety, etc.

Cub Scout Leader Pow Wow

The program is geared for Cub Scout Leaders and committee members. Pow-Wow can create excitement in your meetings, add sparkle to your program and give leaders new perspectives on the Cub Scouting Program. POW-WOW is scheduled for Saturday, January 9, 1999.

The second phase is the application of these skills in your Scouting position.

UNIT PROGRAM HELPS

Cub Leader Program Helps

These helps are designed to make the den leader's job easier by providing program ideas and suggestions. For each month there are scores of games, crafts, ceremonies, and tips for den and pack programs. These are available to newly registered leaders at no cost while they last.

Troop Program Features

In recent research, The Boy Scouts of America determined that inadequately planned and executed troop meetings were the #I cause of boys leaving Scouting. Good troops must plan a program on an annual and a monthly basis. Troop Program Features can help you do this.

Woods Wisdom

Every troop needs to develop a blueprint for success in order to deliver a quality program to the boys who joined. In the operation of a successful troop, planning a quality program is most important. Woods Wisdom is your blueprint for success and can be purchased in the Scout Shop.
