Great Smoky Mountain Council Scout Executive Ken Mehlhorn has announced the hiring of Tom Newman as Toqua District Executive effective January 3, 2006. Tom has been active as a volunteer in the Sequoyah District, having served as both a Cubmaster and Pack Committee Chairman.

The United States is divided into 4 regions by the National Office of the Boy Scouts. The Southern Region is made up of 13 states including Tennessee. Knoxville is where service center is located for the Great Smoky Mountain Council which includes 21 East Tennessee counties. Toqua District is one of 10 districts that the Great Smoky Mountain Council is divided into. Toqua is made up of West Knox and all of Loudon County.
